Wireless Contract Finalized
20/20 Communications and Washtenaw County solidified their private-public partnership with the signing of the Wireless Washtenaw Provider Agreement on Tuesday, September 26. This agreement outlines the services that 20/20 Communications will deliver to the entire Washtenaw County community in exchange for access to select public assets. Under this agreement, 20/20 Communications will deploy a free service of 84 Kbps to the entire community, with premium services starting at $35/month for speeds up to 1 Mbps.
With the agreement in place, 20/20 Communications will begin the first phase of deployment by constructing three small-scale pilots in the following locations:
-
The City of Ann Arbor: Wireless services will be deployed throughout a designated coverage area that is expected to encompass a few square blocks in the downtown area and serve a mix of residential and business clientele.
-
The City of Saline: The pilot in the City of Saline is expected to cover the downtown area and extend east and west along Michigan Avenue. Service should be available in parts of Saline Township to the southwest and in parts of York and Pittsfield Townships to the east.
-
Southwestern Washtenaw Council of Governments: Broadcasting equipment will be installed on the Village of Manchester water tower, which will allow signal penetration into the surrounding townships of Bridgewater, Freedom, Manchester and Sharon.
During the pilots 20/20 will utilize new and enhanced technology to deliver quality services to the community. 20/20 will begin preparations for pilot deployment over the coming weeks, with construction anticipated to begin in mid-October and last until the end of November. 20/20 Communications and Wireless Washtenaw will make a joint announcement as to when the pilots are ready to offer services to the community, including the appropriate contact information to subscribe for services.
